July 2020 Elections

Primary Run-off Election Day & Senate District 14 Special Election Day: Tuesday, July 14

In-person early voting: Monday-Friday, June 29-July 10*
Last day to to request a ballot by mail (received, not postmarked): Thursday, July 2**
Last day to register to vote: Monday, June 15

*Editor's note: Per Governor Greg Abbott's May 11 proclamation, in-person early voting begins Mon., June 29, a week earlier than its originally scheduled start on July 6. This post has been updated to reflect that change.

**Expanding Vote-By-Mail due to COVID-19 precautions is evolving in Texas; for now, voters should assume that they will have to request a mail-in ballot and must do so by July 2.

Primary Run-off Election

Several of the March 3 primary elections in Travis County and across the state will move to a run-off election. In light of COVID-19, the rescheduled primary run-off election day is Tuesday, July 14.

For the Democratic Party, races include the U.S. Senate; Congressional districts TX-10, TX-17, and TX-35; and the Texas Railroad Commission. Local Dem run-off elections will be held for County Court at Law No. 4; District Attorney; County Attorney; and the Precinct 3 seat on Commissioners Court.

For the GOP, Congressional districts TX-17 and TX-35 will move to run-offs, in addition to State Board of Education District 5 and Texas House of Representatives District 47 races.

Senate District 14 Special Election

At the time of this post's publication, two candidates have filed in the race to replace retired Kirk Watson's Senate District 14 seat. These candidates are: State Rep. Eddie Rodriguez and former Texas Libertarian Party Chair and Lago Vista Council Member Pat Dixon. Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhardt has announced her candidacy but not yet filed. The filing deadline for the SD 14 special election is Wednesday, May 13. We will continue monitoring this race for updates.

Uniform Election Day: Saturday, May 2

Last day to register to vote in uniform election: Thursday, April 2

At the time of this post's publication, Gov. Greg Abbott has not announced scheduling a special election in retiring state Sen. Kirk Watson's Senate District 14; the governor has until some date in March (likely the 10th, 17th, or 27th) to call an SD 14 special election for the May 2 uniform election date. We will continue monitoring this election for updates.
